Reflect the Light of the Son
The moon seems very lovely,
Each night it passes by;
So beautiful and shiny,
Upon the velvet sky.
And yet, the moon is really dead;
Its light is not its own.
Though shiny it may seem,
It's really just a stone.
The light the moon projects,
Upon our darkened course,
Is simply being reflected,
From a greater, stronger source.
Just as the moon reflects
The bright light of the sun,
So must we reflect
The light of God's own Son.
But our light must go much deeper,
It must come from within.
If merely on the surface,
It only hides our sin.
Christ's light must shine from deep inside,
From within our hearts.
To cast out darkness at the source,
That's how the new life starts.

" (John 8:12), and all who follow Him "shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." The closer one walks to Him the more light he has; and the farther one gets from Christ, the deeper are the shadows... _________________

A friend of mine replied via email her thoughts on this post. I got her permission to share them with you here:
| Quote: |
As a lover of the sky, I caught the full impact of your words. In all the lovliness of the moon you are so right when you say it is really just a reflection of a greater source. And I can bask and marvel at its appearance...but that is all that it is....an appearance.
I loved the imagery that it really is just a stone...dead....lifeless. And I yell a resounding YES that it is Christ in us that makes us brilliant, makes us alive, makes us shout hallelujah, Glory to His Name. And how great a truth that there are those who pretend and merely reflect, at best, this light, but for those of us who are truly born again, the Light (capital L) lives within us and cannot but help shine outward.
I think it was our pastor who said that the world doesn't recongize how much Christians affect daily living and are a cause of blessings to the nation...which makes me think that the Light that emanates from us illumines the path of saint and sinner.
Thank you so much for sharing your viewpoint of the light of the moon in poetry with me. It was a blessing and causes me to smile!

Another great verse that applies here:
| In II Cor. 3:18, Paul wrote: | | "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." |

Another great verse that fits here:
| Quote: | | For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. - 2 Cor. 4:6 |

This is going to seem kind of random but i have a random mind. Last year in English i had to analyze a poem called "Crossing the Bar" by Lord Alfred Tennyson. Anyway the first image of the water and bar reminded me of the poem. The text can be read at:
http://www.usmm.org/crossing_the_bar.html
Nice allusions to the Bible.
ex. "I hope to see my Pilot face to face" |

You are right, "Nice allusions to the Bible" - "I hope to see my Pilot face to face" - we shall see Christ face to face, and He is our Pilot. I wonder if that is what Tennyson meant.
So, is Tennyson referring to death - "crossing the bar"? |

| Have you ever thought why so many people don't belive in Christ? I can't stop thinking why it is so. And I hope to see my pilot too some day. |

True. Strange but true indeed.

| Tennyson was refering to death and his father was a reverend. He was educated at home. This poem was written 3 years before he died and is published as the last in all collections. He died in 1892. |

I had a thought the other day that fits well in this topic about reflecting the light of the sun/Son.
There is a line in my poem above that I am specifically referring to in this post:
| Quote: | ... But our light must go much deeper,
It must come from within. ... |
The earth cannot shade the sun. The earth can never cast a shadow on the sun. The earth can, however, cast a shadow on the moon.
Why is that?
Because the light of the moon is coming from the sun, so if the earth gets "in the way" (i.e. between the sun and moon), then the earth's shadow is cast upon the moon. The light of the sun, however, comes from within itself.
What is my point?
Just this ....
If we get between someone and the Lord, then we cast a shadow on them.
If anything gets between someone and the Lord, it casts a shadow of darkness on them.
If the earth (world) comes between us and the Lord, then we are in darkness.
We are told to "walk in the light as He is in the light".
To make sure that nothing (and no one) can cast such a shadow upon us, we must have the light of the Lord shining from within us, as I stated in the poem above.
Let your (His) little light shine. _________________

I mentioned above, in reference to my "Moon" poem, "if the earth (world) comes between us and the Lord, then we are in darkness."
I was reminded of that thought when I got my photos of the eclipse the other night.
See how the shadow of the earth is blocking light from the moon? As I said above, the moon has no light of its own. That is what happens when we let the world get between us and the Lord. When that happens, we stop shining His light. We have no light of our own. We either have His light, or we have no light at all ... and the absense of light is called darkness.
Don't let the world eclipse your light.
There is also a cool Christian song out now that says "Lord let me shine, shine like the moon, a reflection of You, in all that I do ..."
Are you shining like the moon? _________________
