When you first posted this topic I was not quick to say I was a RHINO since I lacked obedience. God can do awesome things when you are obedient. I'm not perfect but now I am more of a RHINO then I have ever been.

I hope we will all adopt this sign as our own.

We need to be continually changing and growing in our walk with the Lord and our service to Him.

As they (whoever "they" are) say ... "You are either green and growing or you are ripe and rotting."

Not a Bible verse, but a good thought anyway.

Ok then ... here is our chance to make sure we are "green and growing" for the Lord, and to commit to holding each other accountable to that kind of growth and "construction work".

The "Rhino 7" (HERE) is based on the principle of "continued growth".

Look at II Peter 1:1-13 where the Rhino 7 is derived from.

"... For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure,
they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive
in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." ( verse 8 )

Notice that it says "in increasing measure". That implies continual growth.

That's a good acronym for christians. Maybe it doesn't appeal
so much to ladies, perhaps, but without lady rhinos, there wouldn't
be any.

Rhinos are good animals, with strong qualities. Unfortunately, men
are their worst enemy, as it is with most of God's creatures. We can
understand animals and try to live like them. We often speak of living
like an animal as if it were awful, forgetting that we too are animals,
designed exactly like most other mammals. That's God's plan and we
pretty much have to get used to it.

There is a lot to learn from their caring aspect. For example, I heard
once that herd behaviour among elephants keeps them civil. When
you take young elephants and let them grow independantly of a herd,
they start to become overly aggressive and destructive. This was a
problem for one game preserve in Africa. They noticed that in a herd
such behaviour is kept in check by the mothers. The church is a strong
herd, or flock for God's people and we should understand our part in
that. Perhaps sheep, then, is the more normal animal christians are
compared with, and what I more associate myself with, but Rhinos
are a good symbol when you think of strength, and their armor is a
a good symbol for endurance. We need a thick skin sometimes, or
a high endurance in this modern world.

Speaking of a rhino's thick "armor-like" skin ....

That is a primary reason for my interest in rhinos to begin with. When I picked up that first little pewter rhino all those years ago, it reminded me of the armor of God (in Eph. 6).

That began quite a "safari".

Haven't been able to share or read for a while as the nighttime school activities have kept this rhino principal charging forward. We've named our Sunday School Class the RHINOS standing for Righteous, Humble, Integrity, Nobel, Obedient, Servants. The women of the group enjoy the name as well as the males.

We realize the rhino's skin is 2 inches thick so it lets petty things bounce off it. We also know that the rhino allows small birds to feed of its back thus it is inthe habit of supporting others.

We charge through our obstacles and turn them into opportunities.

That's great to hear. I believe the female rhino looks after it's young very well too.

And yes Bruce, the female rhinos look after their young and protect them. Don't get too close to a mother and her calf!!! (Yes, Sue, that means you and your camera too. )

A young calf stays with its mother for 2 to 3 years before moving out on its own. If threatned, the mother will snort ... and if that doesn't scare off an intruder, she may charge!! You might as well lie down in front of a moving train ... same result.
