I promised to post about this, but I cannot find the post where I promised it, so I will post it here. Joking/playful fun

This is an explanation I used at church a while back to show where the power of prayer comes from, and what prayer's purpose is.

I used a power tool for an example.

The tool is not the purpose. The tool has a purpose. The church is the power tool. That is us. God has made us for a specific purpose.

A power drill for example has the purpose of drilling a hole. A power saw is for cutting boards. Each power tool has a different purpose. We each have different purposes that make up the whole "project" for building God's kingdom. Smile

Now, how does the power tool get its power? It must "plug into" a power source.

The power cord, which connects the drill to the power outlet is like prayer. It is the channel for the flow of power to the power tool.

Now, what does the power cord plug into? Into a power outlet. The drill cannot get power from the power source (electric company, etc.) without an outlet to plug into. The power outlet is like Jesus. As He said, "no one comes to the Father except through me."

And what, or Who, is the power source? That would be God of course. Smile

And what, or Who, is the actual power that flows from God (power source), through Jesus (power outlet/way), via prayer (power cord)? What is that actual power? The Holy Spirit! Smile

Visit www.icaninchrist.com to learn more about that power working in and through us. Smile

Additional note - we are not cordless drills, we must remain plugged in.

Jesus said "apart from me, you can do nothing".

If we are not plugged into the power source through constant prayer, then we will not have the power to accomplish any of the purposes that God has planned for us.

A power tool not plugged in is nothing more than a paper weight.

So ... are you a power tool or a paper weight?

Rick: I really like this illustration. It really makes it clear how important all of the parts are!
